How often should you tune your piano?

People often wonder how often they should tune they're piano. There isnt really a right answer to the question because there are so many contributing factors that are involved. Your piano starts going out of tune as soon as the tuner walks out the door. The typical answer would be twice a year, first weeks of winter and first weeks of summer. This is due to the climate change which affects the tension of the piano strings as well as the wood. There are certain things you can do to help your piano stay in tune. Placement is very important. Putting it by an open window, aircon, plants, anything that increases the humidity is not a good idea. Professional players often purchase humidifiers to keep the humidity level at a set percentage to help the strings stay in tune.
